Altair AI Studio (formerly known as RapidMiner) is a popular Data Mining software tool. Below are clear instructions on getting set-up with the free Student Edition license, downloading the tool, and activating the license inside the tool. The license will need to be renewed and reactivated (again for free) after 1 year when the license expires.

Step 1: Create Altair One Account (with university email)
READ BEFORE MOVING TO STEP 2: When you attempt Step 2, if the button to generate your license activation key does not appear and is pending verification, please wait for verification of your academic credentials. Although usually much sooner, in some cases the verification may take 1-3 days for you to be able to perform Step 2. Once verified, you will be notified by email, at which point you need to return to Altair One Marketplace as explained in the Step 2 instructions to obtain your key and complete Step 2. Contact us if you never receive a license activation key after 3 days.
Step 2: Obtain your Altair Student Edition License Key from the Altair One Marketplace

Note: This will be AI Studio. Make sure to select your correct operating system (Windows/Linux/MAC), and for these Student Edition instructions to work properly, the one you pick should be "Altair AI Studio" (not "RapidMiner Studio").
