Introduction
To our valued Altair community,
This article provides important advance notice regarding a required change for the upcoming HyperWorks 2026, which is scheduled for release later this year. To maintain the highest standards of security and performance, we are updating the supported Linux operating system versions.
Starting with the 2026 release, HyperWorks products will require a minimum of RHEL or CIQ Rocky Linux version 9.4 to install and run. We are sharing this information now to give you ample time to prepare your systems.
What is Changing?
- New Minimum Requirement: RHEL or CIQ Rocky Linux 9.4.
- Impact: The HyperWorks 2026 release will not run on any Linux versions earlier than 9.0 (such as RHEL/Rocky 8.x or earlier).
- Important Note: This change applies only to the HyperWorks 2026 release and future versions. Your existing installations of HyperWorks 2025.1 and earlier will continue to work unchanged on their currently supported operating systems.
Why is This Change Necessary?
This update is driven by a critical upgrade to the OpenSSL libraries, which is essential for addressing security vulnerabilities and ensuring the ongoing security of our software. This newer version of OpenSSL is only available and supported on Linux OS versions 9.0 and above.
What You Need to Do
We strongly recommend that all Linux users take the following steps before the HyperWorks 2026 release:
- Check Your Current OS Version: Verify the version of Linux you are currently using. You can typically do this by running a command like
cat /etc/redhat-release or cat /etc/os-release in your terminal. - Plan Your Upgrade: If your systems are running a version older than 9.4, please plan and execute an upgrade to a supported version.
