Simulation error during bending test setup on merged geometry in SimSolid [Inspire v2025]

Hello,

I am currently setting up a bending test simulation in Altair Inspire v2025 using SimSolid. The part consists of a hexagonal lattice structure embedded in a solid outer shell, modeled using implicit geometry and then combined with Boolean operations.

After using the Combine tool to merge the lattice with the solid block, I applied:

A fixed constraint on one end face

A vertical force on the opposite top face (intended to simulate bending)

When I attempt to run the analysis (e.g. normal modes or buckling), I receive the following error:

Both the fixed face and the force application face are shown in red.

My questions:

What is the recommended way to apply boundary conditions for a bending test on a merged (implicit + solid) geometry?

How can I prepare or partition the surface so that SimSolid recognizes it as valid for loads/restraints?

Hi there,

Have you considered combining all solids in an external CAD program such as SolidWorks before importing the unified geometry into SimSolid for analysis? This approach helps ensure there are no gaps between the shared faces of the volumes in your assembly, which can often lead to issues during simulation.
