Hello together,

did sombody already use the Interfaces 1/9 and 18 for Fliud-Interaction and can tell me the difference? The Dokumentation ist not really specific on the explanation.

Tnak you very much.

    Hi,

TYPE1 is a tied interface, for tying ALE nodes to a Lagrangian Surface (e.g. fluid domain in a container where the mesh does not match)

TYPE9 is for contact between the 'outside' of an ALE domain and Lagrangian surface

TYPE18 is a penalty method interface for the 'material' of an ALE mesh (as opposed to its grids) and a contained Lagrangian mesh in FSI problems, e.g. blast with MULTIMAT approach where the structural mesh is contained inside the ALE/EULER domain

I used the type18 Interface for a simple flap inside a rectangular channel.

I set the value for Interface stiffness and gap according to the help documentation.

Is it somehow possible to check the contact in HyperView? I mean it looks "good", the clap is moving nicely, but I would like to check if the fluid flows around the flap and not through it.image

    Hi Matthias,

You can request the output of density and of the different volumetrc phases to do your checks.

You will find attached a template file of engine with all the necessary outputs.

    Regards,

    Mathis

    Hi Mathis, thanks a lot!

This template is very helpful. But I still didn't managed to do a proper check of the interface.
The density plot doesn't show a real difference at the area of the clap. (density of clap = 1000 kg/m^3; fluid is Air) the mesh is of course a bit coarse, maybe that could be the problem.image

The only value I get out of the volumefraction plot is zero. In this model I used /MAT/K-EPS and no multimaterial. Do I need to use /MAT/LAW51 to check the interface?

On the FSI-Training I found this slide:

imageAlthough my case is a bit different, it would be nice to be able to do a similar tuning of the interface.

    Hello Matthias,

I have a very similar problem. If it is possible, could you share you rad file or just the contact definition and material properties.

Thank you and Regards Steffen Mathia

    Hi Steffen,

I attached all the files you need to recreate my model. The .hm-file may be an older version, so better use the rad file. If you need anything else, let me know.

Also I would be happy to hear from you, if you find a good way to solve the problem.

    Regards Matthias

    Thank you for your help.

Yes as soon as I get any good result I will share my setup.

    Regards Steffen
