non linear simulation

Hi

I am trying to simulate a braking device for an elevator. The standard results are available in solidworks and i am trying to recreate them using hyperworks. I am using the same type of contacts and BC's as in solidworks but the results are not similar. So far i have done the linear static simulation and the results are nt similar.  The Problem is, i also want to do topology optimization  in the later stage and I think the non linear simulations are not ideal because of the obvious reasons. 

Could you please suggest me some other way?

    Hi Vikas,

    To answer your question, I would like to ask if it is Nonlinear analysis or Linear analysis?

    As you have mentioned you are doing linear analysis and results are not matching then it is wise to 1st identify if it is having non-linearities in the model. Non-linearity may be due to contact, geometry and material. If you are trying to solve non-liner problem as linear, definitely the results will be different.

    Regarding Optimization, Optistuct supports contact nonlinearity. Material non-linearity is not yet supported.

    There are lot of optimization tutorial available in help documentation which you can follow.

    thank you for the reply.

    The non-linearity exists due to the contacts only. Moreover the displacements are very small in the order of 10e-1mm and 10e-2mm. I know i can use non linear static analysis with small displacements but as i mentioned when it comes to optimization the computational effort is more. 

    Now that i know optimization is achievable(thanks to you). I'll try to do that.
