How To Model Plastic Mechanical Behavior of Plastics in OPTISTRUCT
Dear ALL,
Traditional plasticity models, which are often used for metals, fail to adequately represent the mechanical behavior of plastics.
In the case of metals, plasticity typically begins after the material has undergone linear elastic deformation. However, plastics exhibit both linear and nonlinear elastic behavior before yielding, which results in a discrepancy between the product of Young's modulus and yield strain, and the material's yield stress. This makes the traditional plasticity models unsuitable for accurately capturing the behavior of plastic materials.
Could you please suggest a suitable constitutive model in OPTISTRUCT to better describe the plastic mechanical behavior of plastics?
I look forward to your insights on this matter.
Best regards,

If you don't need to model unloading, or it is not a very important factor, the simplest i have seen is using is a tabulated stress-strain rate from the beginning of the deformation. In other words, model like yield occurs at [0,0]
