Workflow of Applying MDS Short Fiber Composite Material

The purpose of this document is to help users:

  • Map fiber orientation obtained from injection molding simulation to structural simulation mesh
  • Plug Multiscale Designer (MDS) short fiber composite material into structural simulation model
  • Run MDS library along with FEA solver

Therefore, one should have the following items ready before going through the steps described in this document

  • Injection molding simulation mesh
  • Fiber orientation tensor result file from Inspire Mold or other injection molding simulation
  • The bug-free structural simulation model whose material needs to be replaced with the MDS material
  • MDS project file with unit cell, linear properties, and nonlinear properties defined
  • 6 HWUs to run MDS along with the structural simulation (co-simulation)
