Overview

In this example (Radioss deck attached in the *.zip file)  the 3D bolt preloading or  pretension is achieved using 1D spring element , /PROP/TYPE32(SPR_PRE).

The  preloading magnitude and duration is set within the property /PROP/TYPE32 using a curve (of function).

As the  /PROP/TYPE32 spring only has 1 DOF , in order to add the remaining DOF, and stiffness in these DOF's,  it is recommended to add another spring, type  /PROP/TYPE13 in parallel.

Please refer to the documentation of PROP/TYPE13 below, and the comment 10.:

https://2021.help.altair.com/2021.2/hwsolvers/rad/topics/solvers/rad/prop_type32_spr_pre_starter_r.htm

Also as recommended, the connection between the nodes of springs and each endo of the bolt mesh mesh is done thru rigid body element,  /RBODY.

And when dealing with /RBODY, it is advised to connect the spring nodes as secondary node of the rigid body.  And the main node of the /RBODY is not connected to any element.
