I am mehul kumar, a  masters students in computer science from germany. Digital twin as a concept is gaining popularity. I started working with first principle models to model motors and drives and to start working on new and slightly advanced things kind of. excites me. Looking forward to what more is to learn from here

    Greetings,
I'm attending master's degree course in industrial
automation engineering at Università degli Studi di Brescia.
I'm really interested in this kind of systems owing to my bachelor thesis,
which was about the modelization and control of a ball&plate system.
    Thank you for this opportunity!

Do you have issues with the Path or stability??

We got some comments about issues that the ball could not follow the path. Here some tips & tricks:

The path should be given in [mm] and within +-160mm for X and +-125mm for Y. You can check the path easily by changing the Block 'Reference Trajectory':

    image

the 'Gain' of 0 ensures that the plant (ball) will not follow the path input, an easy way to speed up checks (I recommend to select the linear plant with PID controller as well and remove the 'real time scaling' in the simulation parameters to get results in "warp speed".)

The plot shows the problem for the selected path.... scaling and offset is required:

    image

You still might see issues when you select the 'observer' as controller. The reason can be the setting of the 'initial state':

     image

Either you give the whole system more time to settle (the observer will adjust itself) or you define a better value for x0_est right from the beginning:

    image

The current model pulls the initial position for the observer directly from the .csv file and later modifications are not considered. The easiest (but not most flexible) way is to replicate the modification.

I am sure you will figure out how the ball will follow your path - let us know if you have issues or let others know if you have solutions :)

I am a 3nd-year college student doing petroleum engineering. I am very enthusiastic regarding simulation and rendering objects. I am also interested in exploring new areas outside my domain as a result I am signing up for the Twin contest. By participating, I think this will help me grow as a person, student, scholar, whatever applies.

    Hello Everybody,

I'm a masters student at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, studying mechanical engineering. I have a passion for this field of engineering, but as the world stands today, mechatronics and robotics are for sure the future. So when I heard about this competition, I immediately thought that this would be an excellent opportunity to gain some experience in control technology. The other reason for participating is that I'm very much fascinated about simulations, because it's getting more and more accepted alternative for prototype testing. So, all in all, I think this is a very up-to-date challenge, and I'm very much excited to improve myself in this dynamically changing field of engineering.

IMPORTANT: I'm participating together with Jakab Molnár.

Best of luck to you all!

Sir, In task A I am not able find My Blocks in the menu for adding ContourToXY,

    Kindly Help.

    HI Shashi,

First, we you will need to add the ContourToXY.dll into embed, this will prepare Embed for reading contours of images, extracting the contour coordinates, and saving it to a .csv file.

    • Open Altair Embed > go to Edit > select Preferences, a window as shown below will appear > Go to Addons tab

    image

    • Scroll down and click on ... > Browse and select the ContourToXY.dll (ContourToXY.dll file is provided along with this document) > Click OK

    image

    • Close and Restart Embed

this is described in the video in the training material section as well for task A

    Hi Ahmet,

The solution to the problem in most cases takes about 4 days,

April 19th is 3 weeks away and since the extension is for all (all participants can make use of the extra time to improve their submissions) bonus points cannot be awarded based on date of submission.

Having difficulty in saving the Altair Embed work as CSV(Excel) file. Need solutions please.

    HI Abdul,

When you run the embed diagram, the .csv will be output automatically, you will see a LogoTracelog.csv in the same folder as the model file is in, you should open this .csv

You seem to be saving the entire diagram (which is a .vsm file, that should be opened by embed only) as .csv and opening this file, this is the cause for what you see.
