Let’s have a look at the key features and improvements of Altair® FluxMotor® 2022.1!

More Precise Thermal Modeling

Altair® FluxMotor® is a multiphysics tool providing thermal analysis of motors.

An even more precise modelling of the machine with its frame, end caps, shaft, and bearings is provided with this new version by adding more nodes in the thermal network.

The following picture gives an example (for the synchronous machine with permanent magnets) of a simple thermal circuit, including the main resistances corresponding to the default synchronous magnet machine, where the frame, the two end caps, the shaft and the bearings have been added.

The two end caps (1) are considered separately from the frame and each of them can have its own dimensions and they can be built with their own materials.

The two end caps are considered separately from the frame. Each of them can have its own material (1).

New imperfect contacts for a more realistic representation of the machine assembly have been introduced with new interface gaps that can be defined in the internal cooling design area.

1) Interface thickness between frame and end caps

2) Interface thickness inside each bearing

A new “use case” for the winding definition expert mode

While defining the winding architecture using the expert mode, it is possible to duplicate one or two circuits in the represented winding sector.

Then, a connection table must be filled for each elementary parallel path.

Hence, a new user input, the number of circuits to be duplicated, represents the number of elementary circuits to be defined inside each sector to be duplicated.

In this example below, 2 circuits are defined in the represented sector (3).This is why, there are 2 connection tables (2) to be filled in. One for each circuit.

A new use case in the dialog box for defining the connection table

Then, the list of possible number of parallel paths « No. parallel paths » adapts itself in function to the number of duplications « No. duplications » and to the number of circuits to be duplicated « No. circuits to be duplicated ». The parallel circuits can be well connected.

The GUI can be displayed in Chinese and Japanese languages

From the supervisor, while selecting the user preferences, English is not the only language available for displaying the GUI. Chinese and Japanese languages have been added.

A new online user help guide area

The online user help guide framework of FluxMotor® has been modified to be consistent with what it is done for Altair® Flux® and for the other Altair® solutions. Here is the new user help guide area:
