August 2023 Winners Announced - Altair Global Student Contest
Altair is excited to announce we have our winners for the Month of August!
Congratulations to David Galvis, August’s AMER champion of the Altair Global Student Contest! ???? Your outstanding skills and innovative ideas have set you apart from an exceptional pool of talented students. David Galvis is a Mechanical Engineering student from the Universidad de La Sabana in Columbia. He took his passion for robotics to the next level with a little help from Altair Inspire. David decided to tackle a job that really utilized some of Inspire’s more advanced features and showed us the power of coupling the motion and optimization capabilities. With that approach, he took an amazing 57% of the mass out of the arm of his robot making it lighter so it could move faster and move around a heavier payload. Way to go David you pushed Inspire and it came through for you!!
Congratulations to Luca Sutton, August’s EMEA champion of the Altair Global Student Contest! ???? Your outstanding skills and innovative ideas have set you apart from an exceptional pool of talented students. Luca is a Mechanical Engineering Student at the Technical University of Munich in Germany and a Senior Research and Development Engineer at TUfast Eco Team. He used Altair Inspire to create an ultra-light suspension system for his team's TUFast ECO Car. First, they used Inspire’s Motion tools to develop accurate road loads that they then applied to an optimization on 5 TOTAL PARTS resulting in a net weight reduction of 47% across the entire suspension. They even managed to maintain a 1.3x factor of safety so they know that suspension will survive the competition and beyond. They compete in the Shell Eco Marathon where the best-designed cars can reach 100’s of miles to the gallon, so weight and reliability are everything. Way to go TUFast, your goal of a First Place Trophy is in reach!!!
Congratulations to Pranav Bansal and Dhruv Prasher, August’s APAC champion of the Altair Global Student Contest! ???? Your outstanding skills and innovative ideas have set you apart from an exceptional pool of talented students. Pranav Bansal and Dhruv Prasher are 3rd-year undergraduate Mechanical Engineering students from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in India with a keen interest in Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) practices. They chose to show us the great work they did on a front hub from their team’s Formula Race Car. The two of them set up some detailed design spaces and not only optimized their hub but then went the next step to use Inspire’s Polynurbs tool to create a beautiful and functional design. Their optimized design reduced the hub’s mass by an incredible 61.3% while maintaining a respectable factor of safety. There is no doubt that their car is going to be a force to reckon with in the 2024 FSAE competitions, way to go!!
