Parameterise mass limit, material and topology optimisation Mindim
I've created a topology optimisation model in HyperMesh and I'm happy how it's working. My simulation optimises for compliance at a given mass limit. Now I want to automate a lot of changes I could make using HyperStudy. The main things I want to look at is varying the mass limit, the minimum dimension input for the topology design variable and to look at using different materials for my components. Unfortunately I don't know how to make HyperStudy change these variables.
When I export my HyperMesh model the only parameters I am currently able to add to HyperStudy are Material properties (Instead of changing the material to a completely different one with preset properties), Force magnitudes and any custom parameters I create. However I don't know how to put any of these parameters into the variables I mentioned previously.
Please advise what I need to do.

Hello Tom,
Here is the Hyperstudy documentation where you can lookup model and create design variables for those parameters such as mass limit and minimum dimensions, material properties. It is like a text editor but you can link any fields in the model and assign to variables.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you!

Hi @TomSouthall,
HyperStudy-HyperMesh can import only selective parameters as design variables in HyperStudy.
Hence, to add any other parameter as a design variable from a solver deck, one has to use the 'Parametrized File' model type in HyperStudy.
Note: Since, you will be parametrizing the mindim, masslimit etc. values which are Topology Optimization variables, you have to understand that for every DOE run executed in HyperStudy, there will be an OptiStruct optimization being executed in the background.
However, one can also use Design Explorer's 'Generative Design' capability for the requirement.
- Generative Design” exploration is a DOE where each run in the DOE is itself a topology optimization.
- The output from a topology optimization can be sensitive to the various inputs, like draw direction, symmetry, minimum dimension, etc.
- The Generative Design workflow provides users with a user-friendly workflow where they can easily parameterize and vary those inputs in order to more broadly & completely explore the design space, coming up with new concept designs.
- Design Explorer provides many convenient post-processing tools to help users explore & understand the different concepts.
Note:
- Mindim can be used as a design variable in Design Explorer 'Generative Design'.
- Maxdim is not supported yet.
Many thanks.
Kind Regards
