Fatigue Analysis of Composites

Hello fellow HyperWorks users,

currently I'm trying to perform a fatigue analysis of composite materials (using the PCOMPP-property) via HyperWorks/OptiStruct.
While setting up the MAT8 material card for my plies, I noticed that there seems to be no option to set up fatigue material properties (MATFAT).

So is it possible that I'm missing something or is it impossible to do a fatigue analysis of composites in HyperWorks/OptiStruct?
I'm aware of dedicated tools like HyperLife, but wanted to get as much as possible done in native HW/OptiStruct.

I'd really appreciate some hints in the right direction, so thanks in advance!

    Hi Willi Stork

What do you have in mind when you say Fatigue on Composite ?

The Fatigue Theory behind OptiStruct is sutted for metallic materials.

    Hi Thomas,

thanks for your interest in helping me!

I'm aware that fatigue of composites is a pretty complex topic and is still a subject for further research. In fact I'm currently working on my Masters Thesis dealing with it.

So while doing my research I read about some fatigue failure / material degradation models based on modified Tsai-Hill-/Hashin-/Puck-criterions and was wondering whether something similar is implemented in OptiStruct.

    Greetings
    Willi

Nothing is available yet in OptiStruct, but we are working on that subject internally.

Available right now is the user law (MATUSR), but this need further more work. You can also contact your local support team to explore in details your problematic.

Thanks for for the hint! I'll have a look at MATUSR.
