Optistruct modeling of the separation line in head-to-head conjuction of plies in composite material

Hi,

I'm trying to simulate the separation line between two plies of composite material which belongs to two different molds. I suppose that there is a weak point  in this separation line and I want to simulate it. I adopted the PCOMPP property using interface laminate and sublaminate in order to simulate either global plies either plies which have head-to-head conjuction.

I compared the results obtained in the model that has the separated plies (right model in the attach) with the results obtained in a model with full plies (left  model in the attach) but the results are identical.

Is it possible to simulate the separation of the plies in the head-to-head conjuction?

I had already tried several combination of PCOMPP, PCOMP and PCOMPG without success.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi Campo

How do you model the separation line between the molds?
Do you use 2 component which refer to 2 different props and material?

If the prop and material are the same you will not see any difference since they are same but just origanized in 2 comps!

Do you want to investigate separation as function of time?

    Hi Johan,

Thank you for your reply. I actually don't completely understand it. I used to different properties but the same material for the two sides of the sample. I also tried to use different components, properties and materials (which same values) and the results don't show difference. I tried either approaches ply-based and zone-based.

Do I wrong interpretate your reply?

What I try to do is to obtain a laminate where some plies are interrupted at the mold sepration and 0 (or very low) stress pass through between two sides. I think that only the global plies which laies on both sides should be able to trasmit the stress between to sides. Am I wrong?

I think it could be a technogical issue and I would like to simulate it.

    thanks.
