Good afternoon, 

 

I am doing my master thesis with Altair Inspire and I am writing it now, and I would like to confirm if by using a symmetric plan I am reducing my topology optimization solution time?

    Hi Diogo,

    It always depends on the model, but introducing manufacturing constraints in topology optimization can increase solution time in order to improve manufacturability of the part.  This is because there is an additional constraint to be satisfied in the optimization problem.

    You can make a small test by comparing the solution time on the same model with and without a symmetry constraint.  The increase in simulation time is usually worth being able to obtain a design that is more easily adapted for manufacturing.  Hope that helps!
