Is there a tool in Hypermesh to create "linear Gaps" (like the utility in Patran) i.e. SUPORT,SPOINT,SPC,MPC

Modelling Contact can be a complex subject. I have worked many times with Linear gaps in Patran/Nastran, which I have created using the Patran utility.

In the 2019 Optistrut user guide it refers to the use of Fast Suport based contact, and it shows an example formulation, that looks very similar to the cards created by the Patran linear gap tool (i.e. SPC, SPOINT, SUPORT, MPC combination). My question is, is there a utility within hypermesh/works/optistrut that creates these for you? To create them manually would be a pain.

Many thanks,

    Hi,

I think there is not! But if you know writing Tcl scripts, you can make such an utility.

    Hello,

If you really want to create the same thing that you create in Nastran, you can do it with the AeroSpace Menu.

In HyperMesh, you need to load the Engineering Solutions / AeroSpace user profile.

Then in the pull down menu Areospace, you have the Linear Gap tool under Connections. See the video attached.

In your question, you mentioned the solver OptiStruct.

Indeed we have implemented a new algorithm Fast Contact.

By using it you have multiple advantages:

    • Easier to define and modify
    • Based on a contact node to surface

You will find in attached a tutorial. The FEM model can be found in <install_directory>/demos/hwsolvers/optistruct/examples/FAST_CONTACT.fem

Let me know if I answer to your question.
