AXISYMMETRIC TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION

For already few days I'm trying to optimize an axisymmetrical part (topology opt.). It looks like OS doesn't support axisymmetrical analyses (?) I have tried to optimize full solid model but it generates some ribs. Since this part is going to be made on turning lathe, ribbs are not possible. Is there any tricky method to run 2D axisymmetrical optimization in OS or to prevent radial ribbs in 3D solid topology opt?

Following picture illustrates the problem:

You could use an extrusion constraint with a circular path.

Many thanks for the advice. This is some idea but take a look...

Extrusion constrain work very well but it is impossible to manufacture proposed shape on the lathe due to closed empty spaces.

I have tried to use 'draw direction' constrains but it is not yet supported with extrusion constrain at once (OS 8.0SR1)

Any other ideas are very welcome.

    Kind regards

    HI Souaveck,

can you try dividing the design region in to two smaller design regions of almost equal dimensions and use one plane symmetry option in pattern grouping.

    Or

You may also try using the 2-pln symmetry option instead of the 1-pln symmetry option as well
