Hello,

I am looking for ways to simulate connected parts in HyperMesh + OptiStruct. My task is to simulate a wheel hub, connected to the surrounding parts by bolts, friction and interference fit assembly. Are there any tutorials for a similar task?

    Hello,

for your task, you might consider different modelling and simulation techniques:

    - For the bolted parts, connect the bolt holes via beam elements. You can consider pre-tensioned bolts by assigning them a pretension force. This is described in the OptiStruct help --> pretensioned bolt analysis and in this tutorial: OS-1390: 1D and 3D Pretensioned Bolt Analysis of an IC Engine Cylinder Head, Gasket and Engine Block System Connected Using Head Bolts

    - For the friction and fit assembly, you can use contact analysis, as described in this tutorial and in the 'CONTACT' help topic:
OS-1365: NLSTAT Analysis of Solid Blocks in Contact

    or

    http://training.altairuniversity.com/analysis/structural/nonlinear/contact-analysis-bolted-flange-nlstat/

To simulate the interference fit, define a contact as described in the tutorial / help and model / mesh a small overlap in your geometry / FE-Mesh between Master and Slave Surface.

    Regards
