ALE model
Hi,
when using an ALE formulation i noticed that the mesh doesn't move at all while visualising results, the results however semm to be correct, is there a way to let the mesh move? how can i let it move the same way a lagragian mesh move? i need to use the ALE formulation because deformations are too important and a simple lagrangian formulation desn't work. also how do i create interaction between an ALE mesh and a rigid wall?

Hi Phil,
As you know for the ALE method the mesh motion is independent of the motion of the material being analyzed whereas for Lagrangian method, the mesh deforms with the material being modeled and so the mesh movement will be very less. I don't think we have a method to make it move. But Lagrangian approach is also well suited for large strain problems. Can you please let us know the type of analysis you are performing?.
Please go through RD-3560: Bottle Drop tutorial in Help Menu which is a similar case where rigid wall is defined.

i am using an ALE model on a hate specimen in a dynamic test, i already tried the lagrangian method but the deformations are too important and the elements get distorted a lot and the simulation is interrupted, as for the ALE method it works well but i don't know exactly how to impose the limit conditions, for instance applying a velocity on top of the specimen works well, but creating a rigid wall and trying to make it interract with the specimen is not possible the wall just goes throu the specimen without anything happing, also when i try to use cross sections to determine the foce i don't get any results, i don't really care wether the grid moves or not i just want to be able to do the things i explained previously. would you have any solution for that.

Hi Phil,
For the rigid wall make sure that the normal is perfectly defined and also ensure that the slave nodes has been added.
If the issue persist, please share the model file.
