OPTISTRUCT>>MATERIAL>>MAT 8

I was just wondering if while defining material mechanical properties using a MAT 8 card is it necessary to define all the tabs??

I have only defined E1, E2, NU12, RHO, G12, Xt, Xc, Yt, Yc, S.

I still get my results.

Thanking you,

Sritej Kalas

    Hi Sritej,

If you are not worried about thermal effects then you can igonre A1 and A2 anf GE is the damping coefficient you can also ignore if you think damping has no effect on your analysis.

what about G1Z, G2Z, TREF, STRN and F12??

TREF is again for for temperature loads.

STRN defines whether the given Xc, Xt, etc.. are in the form of stress or strain. If you input STRN=1 then the parameters are taken as allowable strain values.

G1Z and G2Z are transfer shear If G1, Z and G2, Z values are specified as zero or are not supplied, a penalty term is used to enforce very high transverse shear stiffness.

I am sorry but I could not  understand what do you mean by a penalty term is used to enforce a very high transverse shear stiffness??

If no shear values are provided, an aritifical values will be taken to counter shear force.
