Design variable

Hi, 

I'd like to have some information about the design variable in optimization.

I divided my geometry in two components because I want to do an optimization with a constraint on the volumefrac and maximizing the weighted compliance of a part of my geometry, but I want the other part to be invariated.

If in topology panel, when I create the design variable, if I select only the design property I create and I want to modify, the software will remove a percentage of the volume of the design variable an will minimize his weighted compliance and will leave invariated the other part?
