Apply Body Force on Mass Element

Hi,

if you work with OptiStruct as a solver, the Body Force creates a GRAV card, which applies to your whole model.

Even though you pick only the cantilever, it will act on all your model.

I am working with Abaqus as my solver. How do I do it then?

for Abaqus, gravity can be applied only to a part of the model?

I would guess it applies to the whole model as well.

I would build a simple test file, with a simple block of known mass, then add the mass element, and add gravity load.

Run the model, and request the reaction forces.

If the reaction takes the full mass, then you're good to go.

I don't have Abaqus here, so I can't test it.

Abaqus has a DLOAD card, if we do not specify an element set, it applies gravity to the whole model. When we apply Body load in SIMLAB then SIMLAB writes out an element set, which has the bodies selected but not the masses, and the load is applied only to that element set. 

The workaround I current forsee is to manually go into the input deck that SIMLAB creates and edit it. I wanted to know if there was a way to do it within SIMLAB. 

This could be a feature that can be added to the next version of SIMLAB.

Hi,

For Abaqus we can define body force directly on Mass elements.

Steps

1) Open Body force dialog.

2) Select the Load selection filter.

3) Select the Mass defined on the browser.

4) Select Ok in body force dialog.
