Difference between Altair Flux & Flux Motor?

Hi all,

I recently came across Altair’s suite of products related to motor design and development, specifically Altair Flux and FluxMotor. I would like to understand the key differences between these two tools, and in what scenarios each one is best suited for use.

Are there any specific criteria or guidelines for choosing between Flux and FluxMotor when designing or analyzing electric motors?

Thanks and regards,
Sivaprakash V.

    Hi Lavanya,

    Thanks for your reply.
I will go through the article.

Can we import the .DXG file in Flux or Flux Motor and perform the analysis?

You can import .dxf file in Flux, but not in FluxMotor. You need to create a separate part in Flux for FluxMotor and then import it.

We have special scripts called Macros included in Flux to create parts for FluxMotor from .dxf files.

Alright. Now, I am planning to design a BLDC motor from scratch. We need to extract various heat losses such as winding losses, core losses, flux-related losses, etc., and use this data for heat transfer analysis.
In this case, which software would be more suitable for the application — Flux or FluxMotor?

    Thanks for your Guidance.

FluxMotor is the best tool. It has thermal analysis capability, also based on the housing and cooling you define.

You can also run optimization for your model using FluxMotor and Hyperstudy.

I am doing a 3-day 2-hour session training on Design of BLDC Motor using FluxMotor starting June 23rd. This will give you an idea of the workflow and design. Here is the link to register if you are interested : https://learn.altair.com/course/view.php?id=796
