Thermal Radiation Simulation with OptiStruct

Hi everyone!

As the headline says:

I'm trying to find a way to implement thermal radiation effects into my heat transfer analysis.

Is there a way to do that in Hypermesh with OptiStruct?

I found the RADM Bulk data entry on the altair help forum, but i have no idea how to implement it in hypermesh

radiation setup is still unsupported by the HyperMesh interface. You can find more info and an example at this link:

Summary: Starting from version 2020.0, Optistruct is able to simulate radiation to space. Unlike conduction and convection, radiation is a method of heat transfer that doesn’t rely on any contact between the heat source and the heated objects. Radiant exchange happens between the surface element (CHBDYE) and a black body space node (ambient node defined by SPC). You can find a presentation attached to this article containing an overview of solver capabilities, as well as an FE example model.

Hi,

thank you, I think I get it. I'll have to edit the fem file outside of HyperMesh..

But how do I create the CHBDYE elements? Because manually adding over 1k elements in the code can't be the solution.

You can use the Nastran profile to create CHBDYE elements. See attached video.
