STEP for Topology Optimization

Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago I started a study on a component and I applied every forces on that, I did TO and after that I can't go forward with that study, I can't re-design my TO of component and I can't try a new TO on new design to confirm my first study.

Anyone can help me? Can you explain the step of TO on inspire?

My model has 70 forces and is quite complex but I can't show that for privacy.

Hi @Francesco_Sidoli,

I see in your previous post as well as this one, we are missing a significant amount of context to help you with your problem.

Are you sure it is not possible for you to provide any images or animations of your model so we can help?

My general advice is to start much smaller, and to not try the topology optimization with all 70 forces active. Start with a small number, like 7, and see how the analysis completes before adding more forces back into your load cases.

I'm sorry, you are right, I've followed every step of minimize mass but after that I would like to test the new geometry for verification but I don't know how to do it because simulation give me an error.

The error tell the part which my forces are applied and the part minimized aren't joint correctly and I can't run a new simulation. I would also like to modify the output of the first simulation a little but the file is apparently too complex and I can't work on the model even though I have a threadripper.

Do you have any advice for me? How can I export all together?

Hi @Francesco_Sidoli,

Does this error appear when you complete the Minimize Mass Tutorial as well, or is it isolated to your complex model?

When you are testing features or a process for the first time, I always recommend that you complete it with the tutorial model first before scaling up to your specific model. If the process of Minimizing Mass + testing the final geometry + modifying the output for the first simulation completes perfectly with the tutorial model, then you will have confidence in the process. Therefore, if something goes wrong using this process with your complex model, then the problem likely is the model and not the process. It's all about narrowing down where the issue is hiding.

That tutorial end before thestep I mentioned, because after the minimizazion of the mass in my component I want to save my TO to make it better with another software because altair crash continuously and after that modification make another simulation with that model to confirm if it is good or not. I don't know if I made myself understood.

If it isn't clear I can explain that in another terms.

Hi @Francesco_Sidoli,

Try the remaining steps with the Tutorial model so you can confirm those steps are possible.

We don't know right now if the process is the issue or the complex model is the issue. Your model geometry may be faulty and is causing the failures, or the way your are setting up the topology optimization may be causing the failures.

Therefore, try the steps you currently applying to your complex model and instead apply them to a different model, like a Tutorial model. Then we can narrow down where you are failing.
