Rendering, Constant Color

Hi,

In Evolve 2014 you could give a object the material 'Constant'. That made it render as a solid shape with no shadow, texture og light.

A good option if and when I need a 'Masking' layer in Photoshop:

I would give every component it own Constant color and I could use that render to put on top of a real render in Photoshop and then easily pick parts of the illustration with the magic wand tool.

Is there a similar way to assign a material in Evolve 2015, that would come out as a 'Constant'/solid?

    Hi Lunau,

Unfortunately this feature is unavailable in our new rendering engine in 2015. However, I have added a request for enhancement to include this in our upcoming release.

Since we cannot disable shadows for global environment maps, it is a little tricky to obtain solid colors. There is a work around for this, which depends on your scene.

    1. Make sure you assign solid colors with 0 reflectance and 0 roughness

    2. Under environment properties assign the reflection and refraction maps to none

    3. Bump up the intensity of the environment map to a higher value like 10 or 15. This usually removes all gradients and adds a white wash effect retaining the solid color because you have 0 reflectance.

    4. You can either remove the background map or assign a solid color like black.

The only scenario where this would not work is if you have tiny crevices and areas where the light cannot penetrate even with a higher intensity. You would have to hide the object/part causing this shadow and render the scene.

    Thanks

Like Arjun said, it's a different workflow. Turn off all lights in your scene and create different colored plastics for each object. Set the reflectance and roughness to zero for each new plastic material you create. Next go to Environment Properties and use a plain white environment map. Then set the Background Map, Reflection Map, and Refraction Map to None. See my attached screenshots for settings.
