Inspire Friction Stir Welding - General questions

hi everyone

Altair introduced a new software named "inspire friction stir welding". I think this software is similar to HyperWeld, only the GUI is changed.

I have few questions about this module. If anyone know the answer, please share with me.

1. Can Inspire FWS do the "transient" simulation where the pin & the shoulder moving on the plate, like Abaqus or Ansys?

2. how to improve the computing speed?
i tried the simplest tutorial from the help, with medium mesh and the convergence tolerance is 0.01.
Running on 8 cores with 8Gb RAM workstation, the tutorial took me 4 hours to complete the "static" analysis  

This is very interesting about this product.

And when i see in the task manager, the CPU and RAM is not working at maximum speed or capacity.
May i know why and how to improve this?
(i have already set the no. of cpu to 8 in the preference setting)

Hello Junta,

1. Yes, we have added a CAD-like interface on Inspire which is HyperWeld ( based on HyperMesh).

2. FSW - Transient for FSW is not supported in the solver. This is on the wish list. As a workaround, we can create a couple of models with different positions of the pin on the plate and simulate each of them.

3. Computation speed – we need to get the model and review it. What element size type did you use - Fine/Medium.
