How to extract the strain component on a surface location of a solid?

Hi all,

My model was built with tetra solid elements, and a structural analysis was solved.

In the test, the strain of some points on the solid structure surface were gotten by strain gauges. I want to compare the strain component from my simulation with the test result. However, my problem is how to extract the strain result on the surface of a tetra solid model in optistruct?

Thank you

    Hi @Roy Duan

You can create a layer of skin on tetra elements with a minimal thickness and get the strains on the same.

    Hi P[rakash,

How about the material and the properties of the skin elements ?  What's more, should I create a system to get the right direction component of the strain?

Use the same material as solid and use pshell property with a minimal thickness (say 0.001)

    Hi Prakash,

I'll try your suggestion. Since tetra element was used in my model, the surface shell element was tri, so the shell element coordinate system may be not in the right direction with my strain measure direction. How should I deal with this problem?

Create a local syst following your measure direction. From Hyperview, show your results within this local syst.
