How to remove penetration/intersection errors

I have two surfaces in contact and want to add the friction contact pair between rod cap and connecting rod: the red and yellow surfaces

I have meshed my component and when running the job I get the following error message:

The simulation is terminated due to diverging solutions but I do not understand how the overlosure is so large, since in the component assembly they are already in contact.

I have tried checking the penetration and intersection in hypermesh but autocheck results in no change (i.e as soon as I re-check, the intersection erros are still present) but interestingly enough no penetration!

If anybody has experience in such situations I would be truly greatful as I have no clue how to move forward since the same error messages appear for the left contact analagous to this one.

Can you verify the normals are correctly oriented?

I am sorry, I am not sure off hand of what solver you are using, but I know Optistruct and probably Radioss have a setting on the card directly to handle some small penetrations.

For larger you may need to adjust the mesh directly. The penetrations tool can do that, but you can also just use the move tool to better position the mesh.
