Request for Student License Reset (Old laptop 'Galaxy Book 1' is broken)

Hello Altair Support Team,

I am a student at Kwangwoon University using the Altair Student Edition.

My previous laptop (Samsung Galaxy Book 1), where the license was first activated, was completely broken and cannot be booted up. Therefore, I am unable to access the 'almutil_gui.exe' on that machine to deactivate the license myself.

Now I am trying to run PSIM on my new laptop, but I am getting a license server connection error (Error Code 15) because the activation record is still tied to my old broken machine.

Could you please reset my activation record so that I can reactivate and use it on my new laptop?

@kangbyeongmin Your previous license key activation is now deactivated in Altair one, you can now reactivate the student license with the same license key.

Deactivation and reactivation feature is only if a computer breaks down or reformatted and is only allowed a few times per user preprogrammed into the system.

You can deactivate the license from one machine and reactivate in another by yourself if you have access to both machines as per –

Do you have full read and write permissions in the license store location? You can try running as administrator and make sure you have admin permissions so license is created in the license store.

Thank you so much for deactivating the license from my old laptop. I really appreciate your quick assistance!

However, I am currently facing a new issue while trying to activate the license on my new laptop. As you can see in the attached screenshot, when I select "User" for the License Store in the Altair License Utility, I get a red error message stating: "Error: Unable to access license store."

I also tried changing the License Store to "System", but the activation still fails.

Could you please let me know what might be causing this issue and if there is a solution to fix this?

Dear Ankita,

I am writing to seek assistance with the license activation process for PSIM.

Regarding the setup, I noticed that while other student users typically use an "almutil_gui.exe" file, my installation directory contains "almutil_gui" without the ".exe" extension. I have attempted to run this program as an administrator and navigated to the activation tab. However, I am unable to proceed because the "User" field remains locked and unclickable, even after entering my student license code.

I discovered that I could activate the license by switching the setting from "User" to "System" and entering my student license code. After successful activation, I entered the path C:/ProgramData/altair/licenses into the license setup in PSIM. However, despite this, I am repeatedly receiving a "Connection to the license server is lost" warning, as shown in the attached screenshot.

I am currently using a Windows administrator account. Could you please advise if there might be any underlying Windows security settings or permission conflicts that are preventing the license from being recognized correctly?

Any guidance you could provide to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Pls see the following discussion, it might be helpful. Please try the suggested steps there - Problem with PSIM License - Altair Community

On Windows, the file is almutil_gui.exe as shown in the Altair Student Edition activation instructions. If you see it only as almutil_gui, Windows may be hiding the .exe extension.

Also you need to ensure you are following step 3 and 4 exactly as specified -
