Overview
The 'Thermal Expansion' API introduces thermal size change effects into your DEM particles within your EDEM simulation. This API uses the temperature change, and expands/shrinks the particles according to that change. An example is also attached that shows the usage of the API
Prerequisite: EDEM 2025.1 or above
Usage/Installation Instructions:
- Extract the zip file attached. Copy the 'ThermalExpansion.dll' from the 'example' folder to the directory of your EDEM simulation.
- This model needs to be added into the 'Particle Body Force' of the Physics section.
- Within the settings (cog button) of the model, you can choose which materials in your simulation you would like to add these thermal size change effects. If you do not choose a particular material, there will be no change in size for any particles of that material. You will need to enter a 'Coefficient of linear thermal expansion' value for your material.
Post-Requisite:
- This model does not calculate temperature changes. This model uses the temperature changes from other models, and uses the temperature change values to affect the size of the particles.
- Since this model does not calculate temperature changes, please remember to add any other model (in-built or not) which changes the temperature of the particle.
Release Version: EDEM 2025.1 or above
