Issue regarding 0D spring elements

On hypermesh, when using a 0D spring element to model an elastic articulation between two pieces, it happens that the two pieces are always linked rigidly. It looks like the 0D spring element is not taken into account in the simulation.

I tried for example to set a very low stiffness in the PBUSH property. Then I created a 0D-element on node 99145, that is linked rigidly with each of the two pieces, with the PBUSH property. I also assigned a system.

I run the simulation, and on the modal analysis, the two pieces where still clamped to each other. ..

Does anyone have similar issue on that topic ?

Hi,

0D spring is a spring which links a selected node and a virtual node. The virtual node is fully constrained (SPC with DOF 123456).

Thus, it is impossible to use it between two real nodes.

You are thinking that you have two pieces. However, I think there is only one piece in your model. The whole elements are continuing.

You need to surely separate the single objest to two ones, and then connect them by 1D spring, never 0D.
