What is the difference between circuits constructed through "Wires" and "Cables"?

Description: Recently I have found out that in CADFEKO there exists an extension called "Cables" (Home > Extension > Cables) through which I seem to be able to construct circuits. Up until now I have mainly constructed circuits I was interested in directly by using Wires and Loads. I am curious whether there are difference between the two approaches. Does anyone know?

Hi @Savio ,

In Feko both Wires and Cables are used to model electrical connections, but they serve different purposes.

Wires are modeled as a part of geometry and are solved using MoM. Wires can be used to create thin-wire antennas, wire based structures, etc. You can assign loads, voltages and currents to them directly.

On the other hand, cables are solved using Transmission Line theory. They can simulate multi-conductor transmission line behaviour, impedance, crosstalk and, signal integrity. There are pre-defined cable definitions in Feko that let's the users design twisted pairs, shielded cables, coaxial cables, etc., very easily. Cables are useful and more efficient for system level or harness designs.
