The Community Team would like to introduce the May Champion of the Month, Simone Reitano @Simone_Reitano.
Simone is an Aerospace Engineer, graduated from Politecnico di Torino in 2019. After an initial experience as a Fellow Researcher, he joined BEOND, an innovative SME providing advanced engineering services, including custom Battery Packs and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
At BEOND, Simone's early contributions focused on structural FEM Analysis & Experimental Numerical Correlation, leveraging Altair's comprehensive suite of tools like Hypermesh, Hyperview, RADIOSS, and OPTISTRUCT for design, analysis, and testing of composite, metallic, and hybrid components. This integrated environment has been crucial for optimizing costs and development time.
Today, Simone is the Technical Lead of the Aerodynamics & Fluid-Thermal division at BEOND. His main interest and key role involve aerodynamic and fluid-thermal applications, including both experimental and numerical approaches, CAE simulations and participation in experimental campaigns like wind tunnel testing and climatic chamber evaluation.
The major challenge for Simone and his team currently is battery thermal management and ultimately thermal runaway events. Thanks to the invaluable support from the Altair SimLab/AcuSolve team, Simone has been able to develop a validated process for single-cell characterization, enabling the creation of a digital twin model of battery packs. This allows for the assessment of safety limits and the design of optimized thermal management solutions.
Simone truly values the incredible support that the Altair team worldwide provides to their customers. He views this collaboration as a true partnership, extending far beyond a typical customer-supplier relationship. He particularly appreciates the useful tools, tips, and valuable insights provided, especially from Andrew Comerford regarding the thermal runaway activity.
Outside of work, Simone shares a common passion among engineers for the Star Wars Universe. He also enjoys intense cycling climbs and leveraging his aerodynamic know-how to enhance his performance during descents.
