Description: I am currently assessing an existing building from 1967 and I came across the wide flange steel beam labelled as 16WF40 or 18WF45 etc. Does Sframe has these sections available?
Hello Paras, thank you for your message.
16WF40 is an older designation for a wide flange beam from the American steel section classification system, which was used before the modern AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) W-shape nomenclature.
S-FRAME does not have a steel database that dates this long; however, the AISC17 (A1085) is widely considered to be the modern equivalent of this database, as the W-shape nomenclature was updated to match the same dimensions
S-FRAME has this database available and ready to use on any member; the W16X40 section is the closest approximation to 16WF40 based on geometry:
With that said, if you think it's not an exact match or would rather use your section properties, you can add a custom section to S-FRAME's database using S-CALC or through a custom database:
Hopefully, this answers your questions.
Let me know your comments! 😉
Best,
Tayen
