Optistruct Solver not using the specified allocated memory

Hello,

I'm running an extensive topology optimization in Altair Inspire and it won't use more than 8 GB of RAM. This machine has 128 GB of RAM but when you open the topoOpt.out file it shows the following error. Please help, this is significantly hindering my performance.

    Hi Susptech,

It is not error; it is just a warning message related to memory allocation.

The warning message says that 25.6GB memory is being allocated for your run which is greater than 8GB default memory usually allocated by Optistruct solver. You can find more information regarding memory in Memory Estimation section.

The .out file looks to be incomplete( may be the run has not yet completed).

    Thanks

    Rajashri

@rajashri_Saha Thank you for the help, it hasn't finished solving yet. Here are the specs of my server. Is GPU acceleration available for topology optimization in Inspire? Any advice on improving speed would be greatly appreciated. It's taking multiple days to solve only 4 load cases. Currently using Inspire 2023.1

    CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5118 CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.29 GHz (2 processors)

    128GB Ram

2x NVIDIA TITAN V graphics cards

    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

    Windows Server 2022 Standard
    Version 21H2
    Installed on ‎1/‎23/‎2023
    OS build 20348.3091

    • Hello Susptech, I have some recommendations for you:
    • Upgrade Inspire Settings:If you’re using an older version of Altair Inspire, ensure you’re running the latest version. Updates often address performance limitations and bugs.
    • Parallel Processing Settings:Confirm if Inspire is configured to take advantage of your system’s cores and RAM. The issue might lie in the configuration for multi-threading or parallel processing.
    • Use DDM for large assemblies, topology optimizations, or when running simulations on systems with high computational resources.
    • I recommend changing the solution method setting to DDM and running the simulation again. This should resolve your issue. I’ve attached a screenshot for your reference.
    • To change these settings, go to File> preference> Inspire> Run Option> OptiStruct solver settings> solution method> DDM
    • Regards,
