Modal Analysis of an Assembly

Hello !

I want to make a modal analysis of an assembly made of 2 parts with different properties : one is a kind of plate (mixed-shells elements) and the other one is a solid part (trias elements). These parts are bolted together with some bolts. There is a pic as a simple representation of my assembly.

For the bolts I use the bolts creator (1D ==> connectors ==> bolt), but how do I model the contact surface between the two parts ? Because I can see in Hyperview that during the movements the two parts penetrate in each others, because there is no contact.

So have you got any suggestions ?

Thanks !

    Hi,

Please go through the tutorial OS-1365: NLSTAT Analysis of Solid Blocks in Contact tutorial in the Help Menu which shows setting up contact between two blocks/components.

    Seems to work perfectly !

    Thanks !

I tried with and without the NLPARM card, it has no effect. so in the case of a modal analysis this card is useless ?

    Hi,

The NLPARM command is used to activate nonlinear solution methods and to select the parameters used for Nonlinear Quasi-static Analysis, Geometric Nonlinear Implicit Analysis, and Nonlinear Direct Transient Analysis.and so for your case there is no need to assign this card.
