Configuring first SAS program

This is my first try using the Altair Analytics Workbench to run a simple SAS program.

The "run" is greyed out. I'm attempting to run it locally. I assume it has something to do with configuring the engine, but the documentation doesn't seem to cover it. I'm using Windows 11 and the latest version available for the software is for Windows 10 so that could be it, but I suspect it's more basic than that since most things that work on 10 also work on 11.

Any ideas?

Could you send a screenshot of the issue?

It could be that you need to set the "mode" to SAS language, this is done in the upper-right corner. You have "workflow", "Default" and "SAS Language", try "Default" or "SAS Language".

Could the issue be to activate WPS Analytics Workbench using Hosted Altair Units?

Hi David,

Our "Community Edition" in indeed available for free for individual users.

There are two MSI installer files for Windows and you have unfortunately downloaded the "no server" version which is no use to you (wps_noserver-4.4.6.0.5780-ga-release-windows-x86_64.msi). That's why the "run" button is greyed-out.

Sorry for the inconvenience and please feel free to log in again to www.worldprogramming.com and download wps_4.4.6.0.5780-ga-release-windows-x86_64.msi instead (without "noserver" in the name).

You won't need to follow our "Hosted Altair Units" document.

1. Download the correct MSI installer file, and also the license file to go with it.

2. Install the MSI, start the program, and Apply the license file when you are prompted.

Thank you for solving my issue. The other version without the "no_server" in the name installed and I've been able to run some programs. When I'd seen the two versions, my reasoning was that since I intended to run locally and didn't want to connect to an external server that meant that I would need the "no_server" version. In hindsight, I'm guessing that the software is always considered to be running on a server and that server is either placed on your local machine or you connect to it. If that's true then the "no_server" is supposed to indicate that the server part of the software won't be installed locally.

Perhaps a short description of when users would want each version would be helpful.

In any case, you've solved my issue. Thanks again.

Yes, this is correct, the server version installs the engine on your local machine. The no-server version is for client-server in that the engine is installed on a remote host (server) - the client connects to that server from their local installation and all processing is performed on the server - hence the no-server version.
