Stopping criterion for hierarchical clustering

Hello!!
Can please anybody suggest me a way to define a stopping criterion (reached distance between clusters) for hierarchical clustering? Is there a possibility to check this property after each clustering run? The solution could also be in Java as I integrate RM in my application. Thank you very much in advance!!
