Need insights on what these errors mean

Hello,

I'm trying to follow the tutorial from the link below to understand the case:
https://community.altair.com/community/en/how-to-model-snow-accumulation-on-vehicles-using-edem?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0122342&sys_kb_id=80045c901b276150507ca6442a4bcb75&spa=1

The problem is I'm unable to run the simulation on my student version.
The errors encountered has been attached below.

I tried removing some parts from the car geometry to see if this would help in executing the simulation but no idea why the error keeps popping up.
Please help me understand why this keeps happening and do suggest a corrective action for the same.

Thanks,

Kiran

    Hi Kiran,

The error you encountered is due to the particle limit of the EDEM student edition. This edition allows you to simulate up to 10,000 particles, but the snow accumulation tutorial requires more than that. Unfortunately, you cannot run large simulations with the student version, but you can still learn the software by following other tutorials. Please see the links below for some examples:

    Cesar

    Hello Cesar,

Thanks for the answer, I have checked the tutorials you've mentioned and it gives a lot of insight into what the software has to offer.
In the past I have executed cases with factory generating more than 10000 particles per seconds.

I deleted a few parts from the geometry and changed the number of particles from 500,000 to 20,000 in the particle factory & now the case seems to be working.

The only problem being that the simulation is taking forever to run, what hardware configuration would you recommend for running heavy cases?

    Thanks,

    Kiran

    Hi Kiran.

EDEM Student edition has the following limitations:

    • 2 x CPU max (no GPU)
    • Disabled functionality on CFD Coupling Interface, MBD coupling interface, Heat Transfer Module and Field Data Import.

For large simulation we tend to use the EDEM GPU solver with a good GPU card. Minimum Machine spec in the link below:
