unable to send email after process ended

Hello,

I try to send an automatic email after the process has ended via the send mail feature. This does not work and I get a javax.Mail.AuthenticationFailedException: failed to connect

The settings as specified in the  preferences are:
Tools.mail. method : SMTP
smtp.host: smtp.strato.de  (big local hoster)
and obviously the smtp.passwd and smtp.user

other fields where left empty.

The system is Mac OS Mountain Lion Server

Any suggestions what needs to be fixed?
