In December 2023 Altair released Altair SLC version 2023.6 GA (General Availability) and made it available on Altair Marketplace. This version supports the Personal Edition license method preferred by Altair. The old WPS Community Edition license method is now deprecated (but still operational) and our community users should plan to upgrade to the new version with the new licensing method.

Is Altair discontinuing the WPS/SLC Community Edition?

Note: WPS is now called Altair SLC. WPS Community Edition (CE) has been available for several years from the World Programming website https://myaccount.worldprogramming.com/ however the WPS Community Edition is being discontinued and superseded by the Altair SLC Personal Edition which is available with similar terms and conditions, for qualifying individuals.

When do I need to renew or replace my Community Edition license file?

WPS Community Edition licenses are legacy SETINIT/WPSKEY license files that are valid until the end of the calendar year in which they were issued. In previous years, Community Edition users have been able to Renew their CE license (and obtain a replacement file) once the new calendar year has begun. Under the terms of the Personal Edition license users will download and install a new version of the software each year – in Jan 2024 this is version 2023.6. The personal edition license is built into the software and, once enabled, will be valid for up to one year. When it expires, the next version of the software will be required in order to renew the license.

How do I renew my Community Edition license at the start of 2024?

Please follow the instructions here:

Do I still need my login account in https://myaccount.worldprogramming.com/?

WPS Community Edition users will not need to maintain their account details on the worldprogramming.com website. Those Community Edition accounts are being deactivated during 2024 and eventually deleted. Instead you need a login account for the Altair One website https://altairone.com/login – you can click on ‘Register’ to create an AltairOne account if you don’t already have one.

Does an existing WPS Community Edition user need to download a new version of the software to use an Altair SLC Personal Edition license?

Yes. The Personal Edition license is available for the latest General Availability (GA) versions of Altair SLC only (in Jan 2024 this is version 2023.6). The new version should be downloaded from the AltairOne Marketplace page https://altairone.com/Marketplace. Please note that this version is comprised of TWO downloads - you need to download and install both the Altair Analytics Workbench AND the Altair SLC compilation and execution environment.

What format does the Personal Edition license file take?

The Personal Edition license is embedded in the software and a license file is not used.

Does the Personal Edition use the Altair Units licensing system?

No, the PE license is built into the software. However if the software is subsequently licensed by Altair Units that will take precedence over the PE license.

Does Altair SLC Personal Edition have the same limitations as WPS Community Edition?

Yes the restrictions on the use of command line and server mode are the same.

What Operating Systems are supported for Altair SLC Personal Edition?

Supported operating systems are: Microsoft Windows (but not Windows Server) and Apple MacOS. Note that Altair SLC Personal Edition is for single-user usage on standalone machines, so no client/server functions are available.

How do I know if I am using Community Edition or Personal Edition?

This information is shown on the Altair Analytics Workbench “Help” > “About” dialog box, and in the top few lines of the Altair SLC Log output.

In some places the 2023.6 version of the Altair software still displayed "Community Edition" instead of "Personal Edition". This will be updated in future versions.

How do I ask questions and get support from Altair?

The Altair Customer Support service is not available to Altair SLC Personal Edition users however you can post questions in the Altair Community Forum https://community.altair.com/.
