Motor Identification of hybird stepper by InstaSPIN

Hi Team,

I have a project that I want to use InstaSPIN for FOC control of two 2-phase hybrid stepper motors. I read Dr. Duco's previous workshop and tried to use it for my hybrid stepper motor, the first step is to identify the motor parameters but the result seems wrong. The original .vsm file is for PMSM, I am not sure if this is a question. Can someone tell me what the problem is or what am I missing?

Another question, is F28069M+drv8301 suitable for my project (with fast response position control and high rated speed) or is there a better TI Launchpad to recommend?

Hi Lee,

Can you share more about the 2 phase stepper motor you are using?

For identification of motor parameters, you may need estimated values of the stator resistance and inductance along with a calculated flux value. These are being set under 'Converter and FAST variables' (See image)

You can run the motor in open loop to know the emf and thereby calculate PM_flux_est. (See image)

The setup "F28069M+drv8301 (48V)" is suitable for most of the needs for your requirements but is old. A new updated hardware setup is F280049C+GaNInv, if you're looking for slightly higher voltage range(60V)

As to the question on steppers:

Attached a power point I have put together for current control plus the Embed files for steppers.
The customer want to run FAST, but that has NOT been done. It can of course be done , but we can also run this with AFT. However I will need to implement this 2 phase example. Plus of course AFT needs to be available for customers.
In terms of measuring parameters: go to the first page (after the title page) and you see the connection diagram. Use an L-C-R meter (low frequency) connected between terminals A-C or B-C. This will give you the L and R values needed for current control gains.
As to the issue of using the 8301-069: this example in the pdf (plus Embed files) is made for setup. However, the hardware you use depends on the motor specs and converter ratings.

The issue of doing sensorless control (for this application) needs to be discussed with the team. Also here PLECS is used and this is a good example where we can use Embed with PSIM cosim.

Thanks for your reply.

I do want to use the FAST to drive the HB stepper, maybe there are some settings I don't understand. I also tried adding FW to increase the max speed. I look forward to seeing more cases of Embed and PSIM in the future. Finally, if you have relevant documents, please share them with me for reference.

My HB stepper is 2 phases 4 wires 28 VDC. I have L-C-R meter, but I don't have another motor to drive the HB stepper and measure the flux in open loop. I thought the ID would automatically detect the flux correctly for me, but it doesn't.

F280049C+GaNInv looks good, but I am a newer for motor control. F28069 has a large number of existing cases for me to refer to, which is more friendly to me )
