HyperWorks and OptiStruct in Composite Yacht Design
Reichel-Pugh Yacht Design is a leader in design and engineering of a wide variety of sailing yachts, from 14ft club racing dinghies to >100ft maxi superyachts that hold numerous race records in the world’s most prestigious yachting events. In addition to naval architecture and stylistic design, the Reichel-Pugh studio in San Diego performs detailed engineering analysis and build management of each boat’s custom composite structures. The Reichel-Pugh team utilizes Altair Hyperworks for global loading studies, topology optimization of metallic structures, and ply-level optimization of composite structures.
Adrian Sawyer is a structures engineer specializing in composite laminate design, component manufacturing, and detailed finite element optimization. His presentation will share their unique approach to composite materials and finite element methods in yacht-building and show many examples of our most exciting recent work.
This presentation was recorded at the Americas ATC West in Los Angeles, CA on September 14, 2017.
