This article aims to demonstrate how Altair Radioss is used to simulate a Picture Frame test. This test is used to evaluate in-plane shear characteristics of fabric material, such as shear modulus and fiber locking angle.

The test consists of a squared specimen held by clamps on all four edges, pin-connected at their ends, creating a square frame. The specimen is then pulled. The simulation results are compared with the physical test.

This article includes:

  • One ready-to-use Altair Radioss model
    • Altair Radioss version v2022.3
    • The Unit System is kg, mm, ms
    • The model is using /MAT/LAW58 (FABR_A) and /PROP/TYPE16 (SH_FABR) for the fabric material
  • A session file to quickly analyze the simulation results
  • A report with a description of the model setup and results
