Free-altair-student-edition is really free???
Hello Altair community members,
I am a teacher at Instituto Superior Técnico part of the University of Lisbon (Portugal).
I first heard about Altair through Althima and its capabilities by attending some Althima´s webinars. It was of free will and for the sake of software diversity, that I recommended Altair to students.
I have been suggesting the use of Altair software to students who are concluding their Master Dissertations but have been encountering some philosophical and bureaucratic issues with Altair's Spanish team.
Following I will establish a timeline of the events:
1) at (https://altairuniversity.com/free-altair-student-edition/) we see that Altair has a Free Student License;
2) These presents some limitations referred at https://altairuniversity.com/altair-student-edition-limitations/, as expected, namely: software, limited time license, supported file formats, technical support and regional availability to some countries that does not include Portugal.
3) After student online registration for download one obtains a message to wait for a link.
4) Unfortunately, after 5 days, no email has been received by the student.
5) I have contacted the Altair's Spanish team that informed me by email of the following:
"In order to access the free student licenses, the university has to buy our academic package, but, as an exception, we are going to ask for the approval of XYXYXY and XYXYXYX requests.
For all that was previously stated, I would appreciate if you can please provide me some clarifications on the following topics:
- Is there a Free Altair Student Edition license that is really free, i.e., it is not required that the university owns an Altair package for the student to have access to the Free Altair Student Edition license?
- If so, how should the students proceed as they have been currently being under long verification processes by the Altair's Spanish team.
I apologize for the long text but I truly hope Altair may provide students with free student editions to pursue software diversity among the universities and later in the industry.
Best regards,
Hugo Policarpo

Hi,
You can download the software from https://altairuniversity.com/ by registering through the school ID. For example here is USA all the school ids have .edu extension to the email. Once you register through the school ID, you should be able to download the software.
Thanks,
Yuvi
