Settings for Specific Topology Optimization?

Hi, I'm learning to perform topology optimization of a brake pedal. However, I am not getting the intended result (see image below).

I have set my target to reduce volume and weight, and I'm getting a porous like reduction rather than an organic truss like shape.

Do I have to setup a specific optimization control to achieve the first image? Please advise. Thank you.

Hi, very probably you haven't defined boundary condition and loads. Usually we need to fix mounting point, then apply loads on the paddle.

The below is some methods you can try:

    constraint: mass< xxkg

    object: min compliance

    or

    constraint: displacement< xx mm

    object: min mass

Please also refer to optimization ebook(you can find it from Knowledge Base) and OptiStruct tutorials. :)

    Thanks.

Thanks for getting back to me Xiaolei. That doesn't help. I'm conducting parametric study and investigating it with Inspire software now, I can only conclude that the geometry and design space influenced the topology structure.

    i agree with @Xiaolei Song

You should first of all review what is your optimization formulation, and make sure what are you asking the software to do for you.

looks like something is not correctly formulated, from the results.
