Overview

How to install MD_Plugin package as an extension instead of a preference (to avoid competing needs) on top of HyperWorks 2022.2 or higher in order to enable related features in MotionView, HyperMesh, Compose and Activate GUIs .

MD_Plugin package enables additional useful features for Multi-Discipline Systems Integration purpose such as :

  • multi-body dynamics (actuator, cam, gear, cable, human body, fluid load, etc ...)
  • durability and vibrations
  • controls and actuation
  • frequency domain analysis

Since 2019 release, MD_Plugin was delivered inside standard HyperWorks Desktop installer as a preference that user needs to set manually instead of other available preferences.

Starting with 2022.2 release, the attached package enables to install MD_Plugin as an extension of HyperWorks that can be activated together with other available preferences.

Pre-Requisite

Install ALL TOGETHER HyperWorks Desktop & Solvers, Compose and Activate release 2022.2 or higher : it is expected to produce such a directories tree (example) :

  • C:/Program Files/Altair/2022.2
      • Activate2022.2
      • common
      • Compose2022.2
      • ...
      • hwdesktop
        • ...
        • utility
          • ...
          • MD_Plugin
      • solvers

Usage/Installation Instructions

 

Enabling extension in Compose

  1. Start new Compose session :
    1. Enable new "Multibody Processing" extension :
      1. File - Extension Manager : activate new "Multibody Processing" extension
    2. Review added features from OML library browser
    3. Register key functions for MotionView cable modeling purpose :
      1. File browser : "C:/Program Files/Altair/2022.2/Compose2022.2/extensions/Multi.../hwx/scripts/oml/Multi.../scripts/oml/MotionViewUtilities"
      2. Open "pulley.oml", select "pulley" function name to register function
      3. Open "tangent.oml", select "tangent" function name to register function
      4. Open "winch.oml", select "winch" function name to register function
    4. Register key functions for HyperStudy response defintion purpose :
      1. File browser : "C:/Program Files/Altair/2022.2/Compose2022.2/extensions/Multi.../hwx/scripts/oml/Multi.../scripts/oml/HyperStudyUtilities"
      2. Open "mbcrossvalue.oml", select "mbcrossvalue" function name to register function
      3. Open "mbindexatvalue.oml", select "mbindexatvalue" function name to register function
    5. Show registered functions

 

UNZIP attached "MD_Tools_v2022_x.zip" package to OVERWRITE the content of

"C:/Program Files/Altair/2022.2/hwdesktop/utility/MD_Plugin" installation directory

 

Enabling extension in HyperWorks

  1. Start new HyperWorks session with MotionView client
    1. Enable most appropriate complementary preference :
      1. File - Load - Preference File - Vehicle Dynamics Tools - Load
    2. Add and enable new "Multi-Disciplinary Tools" extension :
      1. File - Extension Manager - Add Extension : browse to select "C:/Program Files/Altair/2022.2/hwdesktop/utility/MD_Plugin" directory
      2. File - Extension Manager : activate new "Multi-Disciplinary Tools" extension
    3. Review added tool ribbon from new "Multi-Disciplinary Tools (MV)" menu
    4. Load HyperMesh client to review added tool ribbon from new "Multi-Disciplinary Tools (HM)" menu
