This release brings many improvements to Mistral data, increasing the amount of information while dramatically decreasing the amount of data written to the database.
  • Mistral will output JSON instead of CSV. This format is much more efficient so we have more info for less data, so the main effect customers will see is less load on the network and database in their data pipeline.
  • You can still export the old CSV if you want and you can now push data to both the plugin and a log file at the same time.
  • We've added per-second mean and max metrics so you no longer need per second time frame to get per second metrics so the time frame can be much longer, again reducing the data payload.
  • We've added job total and summary I/O to the JSON output and added new dashboards giving more per-job metrics for diagnosing bad I/O
  • Mistral now measures and reports network I/O as well as file I/O.
  • Removed the separate plugin config file setting, merging that into the Mistral global config
  • Renamed shared object library from libdryrun.so to libmistral.so. libdryrun.so is now a symlink to libmistral.so.
  • Renamed mistral.conf to mistral_config.yaml.
And one more thing... we now have Docker Compose scripts for installing Elastic Search and Grafana meaning it just takes a few minutes to deploy Mistral and get it running.

We recommend that customers upgrade and take a look at the following videos:

The latest version of Mistral at the time of writing is 2023.1.1, which is a patch on the first release of this major version. Customers should upgrade to the patch release to get the latest bug fixes.
