Interpretation of Frequency Response Analysis in Acoustics?
Hello everyone,
i'm currently writing a thesis about acoustic simulation using optistruct. Currently i'm studying room acoustics. For this i'm looking at the solutions in frequency domain, but i still have trouble understanding the form of the optistruct solution. I'm trying to make sure, that i don't misunderstand the results.
- The default complex filter in hyperview is set to mag*cos(wt-phi). This essentially gives me the real part of my acoustic pressure, which shows the acoustic pressure deviation over "time" at a particular frequency, is that right?
- If so, to predict the noise perceived by a human, i have to calculate the root mean square pressure. Is there a card or something to calculate this directly in hypermesh/hyperview? Or do i have to calculate it by other means?
- What is hyperview showing to me, if i set the complex filter to magnitude only?
- Is it possible to create a live graph, that shows me the pressure at the current animation phase angle?
I'm thankful for every answer i can get

Hi Dennis,
For #4, can you please check this tutorial: https://help.altair.com/hwsolvers/os/topics/solvers/os/modal_freq_response_flat_plate_r.htm?zoom_highlight=frequency+response+analysis
I think by going through this tutorial, you will gain some understanding regarding magnitude and phase, which can also be switched to real and imaginary form, using HyperGraph(instead of HyperView).
Regarding #2, In HyperGraph, there is a rms function.
Thanks.
